Bahay Artisano

Bahay Artisano

El Nido, Philippines

A two-bedroom vacation villa located in the heart of the Kalye Artisano neighborhood in Lio, El Nido, Palawan. The house was designed by Mindanaoan architect, Deo Alrashid Alam who took inspiration from the Torogan, a traditional ancestral house built by the Maranao people. While studying the local environment and weather patterns of El Nido, Deo chose to look to the past for inspiration and chose the Torogan for its great functional features such as its elevation to resist flooding, high ceilings for cooling and its beautiful display of local craftsmanship that can be seen on the intricately carved panolong.

In line with the mission of Kalye Artisano to preserve and showcase local craftsmanship, the house offers guests a true sense of place as well as a great strategic location being only a 5-minute walk away from the beach and restaurants and a 20-minute car ride away from the main town of El Nido. The house is available for rent with a 2-night minimum and can also be booked for special day events upon request.

Bahay Artisano's architecture is a celebration of Filipino heritage, seamlessly blending traditional and contemporary design elements. The structures are inspired by native bahay kubo houses, with an emphasis on natural materials like bamboo, wood, and stone. The design is both functional and artistic, creating spaces that are open, airy, and in perfect harmony with the lush tropical landscape. Every detail, from the intricate carvings to the handcrafted furniture, reflects the skill and artistry of local craftsmen, making each space a unique reflection of Filipino culture.
